The Best Temperature for a Good Night’s Rest
If you’ve been tossing and turning at night, and waking up frequently throughout the night, you’re probably wondering what you can do to get a good night of rest. You may think of some solutions to get better sleep at night like buying a new bed, or sipping calming tea right before bed, and still find yourself waking up.
The good news is you don’t necessarily have to do any of that and you can control how well you sleep at night using your air conditioner or heater depending on the season!
How Temperature Influences Sleeping Patterns
If you’ve been experiencing night after night of unrest, it may be because of the temperature of your room. Most of the time, when you’re too hot or too cold, you can experience wakefulness more often.
Here’s how you can use your AC and heater to fight back and get a good night’s rest.
What Temperature Should I Set My Thermostat at Night?
- During the Summer: Your biggest ally in dreamland is your AC during warm months. It’s hard to say exactly what temperature is best for your AC at night because everyone has different preferences but we recommend starting out between 60-67 degrees. This temperature range gives you room to play around with how comfortable you are at night. Try setting the temperature to different degrees over the course of a few days to find the ideal amount of cold air for you. You’ll be getting a full night of sleep in no time!
- During the Winter: As we sleep, our body temperature decreases, so you may feel the need to snuggle up in your covers for additional warmth. We suggest setting your thermostat to 65°F at night so that you’re not too hot and not too cold. Any temperature above 65°F may feel too warm, and you can end up waking up throughout the night.
